Melodyne isn't built for percussive, non-pitched transcription, and it shows. It can technically process drum audio, but because its core algorithm assumes pitched material, results on unpitched percussion are inconsistent and require significant manual correction.
RipX sits in the middle. Its stem separation can isolate a drum bus from a full mix reasonably well, which is useful if you're trying to pull drums out of a reference track before transcribing them elsewhere. But its note-detection engine, like Melodyne's, wasn't built around percussion transcription specifically, so you'll still want to route isolated drum stems into a dedicated drum-to-MIDI tool or Ableton's converter for the final pass.
Vocal Phrasing and Melodic Nuance
Vocals are their own category because phrasing, breath, and pitch slides carry as much musical information as the notes themselves. Melodyne built its reputation partly on vocal work, and its algorithm captures the subtle pitch drift and glide of a sung phrase with more fidelity than the other two tools.
