Is Serato Sample the best modern sampler?

Authors

Introduction

Serato Sample is a quick and intuitive sampler plugin that gets out of the way of your creativity and allows you to get into a creative flow with minimal fuss. It's a great tool for producers who want to quickly chop and manipulate samples inside their DAW. Serato Sample is a plugin that we use on a daily basis and we highly recommend it.

Chopping

Serato Chopping

Chopping samples is a breeze with Serato Sample. You can chop samples by beat, bar or manually. You can also set the number of chops you want to make and the plugin will automatically chop the sample for you. You can also set the sensitivity of the chop detection to get the results you want. The chop detection is pretty good but it's not perfect, you will need to manually adjust the chops from time to time.

Time-Scaling

Serato Chopping

Serato Sample uses Serato's Pitch 'n Time algorithm which is one of the best in the business. To our ears this time-scaling and pitch shifting sounds more natural and musical than similar applications like Ableton Live. You can manipulate samples to the extreme and still have usable results. This feature is super useful!

Compatibility

Serato Chopping

Sample will work in most DAWs that support AU/VST* plugins including Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro and Maschine. Serato has recently released Serato Studio which fulfilled our desire for a stand alone application. You can find our review of Serato Studio here.

Serato sample plugin formats: AU/VST* (64-bit only)

Conclusion

If you are looking for a low fuss and inspiring plugin to flip samples inside your DAW you’d be hard pressed to find a more enjoyable application than Serato Sample. There are still a few features we’d like to see added such as saving sample sets independently from from each sessions, hopefully future versions will include additional features.
